Planning an Indian Wedding
Traditional Indian wedding celebrations are filled with ritual, colour, and celebration, with festivities held over a few days. Since a typical Indian wedding is normally a huge affair, often with more than a hundred guests, planning from beginning to end is a crucial but nevertheless fun undertaking.
The wedding ceremony/venue
Choosing the actual date and venue of the ceremony and celebrations are normally done months before the wedding to give ample time for preparations. It’s not uncommon for the couple to consult with an astrologer in order to choose a wedding date that is most auspicious. Traditional wedding ceremonies are conducted under a canopy called “mandap”.
Traditional wedding clothing
In an Indian wedding, the bride is seen wearing a lengha, which is comprised of a blouse, skirt, and stole, designed with intricate and luxurious embroidery. Jewellery and other accessories, such as bangles, nose studs, and necklaces are worn to complete the look of an Indian bride. In addition to clothing brides often undergo a decorative pre-wedding mehndi ritual, wherein the bride’s hands and feet are painted with beautiful patterns using henna.
The groom is often garbed in a sherwani, a long garment, or he may wear a dhoti, normally wrapped around the waist in a knotted fashion. Kurta pajamas are also worn by many traditional Indian grooms. These special garments are made using luxurious materials and may be embellished with embroidery and beadwork.
Indian wedding food
Traditional food served in many Indian weddings is typically vegetarian and tends to be on the spicy side. Nonetheless fish and chicken dishes are served in abundance as well, along with traditional finger foods and snacks. An Indian wedding menu may include Mixed Veg and Chicken, Shahi Paneer, and Macher Kaalia, which is a fish dish typically served in traditional Bengali weddings. Dessert and drinks such as coffee, fruit juice, and soft drinks may also be served.
Other essential considerations
There are other essential considerations involved in planning an Indian wedding, much like any wedding in the UK. Since Indian weddings often involve direct families and relatives of both the bride and groom, the couple has to ensure the utmost comfort of their family members especially in transporting them from one venue to another. A 16-seat limousine for hire is one of the most cost-effective modes of transportation, as it can accommodate a large group of individuals while keeping them in the best possible comfort. And if you’re looking for a limo that is less than conventional, hummer limos are one of the best choices there are.
By keeping all the wedding necessities in check, from the traditional wedding clothing to the wedding menu to the wedding car, you can plan a beautiful, traditional Indian wedding that will surely be remembered for years to come.
